salty sea air

rhythms on twelve strings

my nervous hands

making you a sandwich

my insides feeling like

the swiss cheese

sensing that

I’ve kissed you with

a thousand tongues

even if our bodies

only touched the once.

be glad it happened,”

the sky says.

he felt you too,”

the grass says.

you fucked it up,”

the blacktop says.

meanwhile,

I bleed

and bleed

and bleed.

my body knew

I would never

see you again.

my mind

did not

want to believe it.

cherries and wine

fumbling on six strings

my browbeaten heart

wondering what I did,

remembering

I put too much mustard

on your sandwich.

I’ve kissed you with

a thousand tongues,

but in this lifetime

never the once.
